(Coming Spring 2010 - Progressive Voter Guide)
Nevada has some of the most abundant renewable energy resources in the country. Solar, geothermal, and wind are all clean, secure sources of energy that can be produced and utilized right here in Nevada. Combined with sound energy efficiency practices, investing in a renewable energy future can greatly reduce pollution levels in Nevada and increase our quality of life.
Investing in a clean energy future also means creating good paying green jobs for hard working Nevadans - tens of thousands of new jobs that cannot be outsourced.
Sustainable Water Usage
Water is our most precious resource. Without it much of Nevada's recent growth would not have been possible. That is why it is vitally important to make sure we are utilizing this resource in a manner that insures it's continued availability now and in the future.
The Southern Nevada Water Authority's plan to build a 250-mile pipeline to suck water from rural Nevada to Clark County will endanger the future water availability for all of Nevada. The plan is short-sighted and unsustainable.
Affordable and Accessable Health Care
The health care crisis in Nevada is as real as it gets. Skyrocketing health care costs have left many Nevada families realistically fearing that their next medical incident could wipe out a lifetime of work and savings.
This is America. This is the 21st century. Nevadans who work hard and play by the rules should not have to fear financial bankruptcy because of one slip and fall or one infection.
