WATER GRAB SHOULD END

For too long, Las Vegas has outgrown its natural resources and local governmental abilities to provide services to residents.

Now the Southern Nevada Water Authority wishes its board to reaffirm the unworkable plan to pump water 250 miles from rural areas to the thirsty desert. This multi-billion dollar boondoggle makes no financial sense during the current recession and certainly hasn't satisfied environmental concerns.

ProgressNow Nevada has launched an online petition calling for an end to the water grab.

"It's time Las Vegas learns to live within its means, as all Nevadans are doing during this recession," Executive Director Erin Neff said. "Not only is the cost of the pipeline unbearable, the impact to rural Nevada has yet to fully be understood or determined."
ProgressNow Nevada urges greater conservation and scientific research into alternatives that may assist Southern Nevadans during these historic drought conditions.

A gamble that could dry up our economy as well as our watershed, is not worth any price.
